Review: Life Cell

Life Cell is a KCI Company division that manufactures and distributes medical marketplace body-tissue regenerative products. We hear about organ transplants in the news, but body-tissue regeneration products go beyond helping with just the larger operations; skin grafts, eye-operations, and hernia reconstruction operations also use these types of products to stimulate the body into healing injured areas faster.

A common area of use for the Life Cell products is seen within breast surgeries for enlargements, reductions, or after a breast removal. The body must heal itself by adding body-tissue that will eventually grow over the areas that were wounded during surgery. The Life Cell products have cells in them that are resistant to infection or diseases that stimulate while-blood counts that promote healing.

The Life Cell products come in various styles, shapes, thicknesses, and rigidity so that use on all parts of the body is possible. Alloderm is the original product-line name for the Life Cell regenerative products that are still used in breast surgery, hernia operations, and burn-related skin grafting projects. Strattice products are used almost predominately in breast surgery procedures where chunkier sizes of regenerative products are desirable.

Since 1994, when body-tissue regenerative products first started appearing on the medical marketplace, others have tried their hand at marketing similar products to those of Life Cell. A company called A-Cell Inc., from Indiana, USA, is also popular among physicians who are working with organ transplants, and other types of surgery procedures that can benefit through today’s advanced regenerative procedures and products.

Today, body-tissue regenerative products are also becoming popular in the dental profession. Thin, thinner, and powdered forms of regenerative products are used in combination with various dental surgeries to ensure that healing is done without infection in a very fast manner. While Life Cell products are not often used in the dental industry, we owe our thanks for the technology to this innovative healthcare provider.
